Ivan Fedotov himself was suspended by the IIHF for four months due to a breach of contract with the NHL team. He was given two weeks to return to Philadelphia or to process his release from CSKA Moscow, but he failed to meet either of those conditions on time.
“We must send the International Ice Hockey Federation to hell! Let’s put this solution in one place! It’s a stupid decision! What is our relationship with them? We are suspended from all competitions. And who are they anyway? Fetisov said in an interview with SE.
The IIHF’s decision is due to the fact that CSKA signed goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov to a contract, despite the Russian’s already existing agreement with Philadelphia.
In May 2022, Fedotov signed a one-year contract with the NHL club Philadelphia, but later had to do military service in the Russian army.
In July, it became known that the 26-year-old goalkeeper signed a deal with CSKA until the end of the 2024/25 season.
