PHC CSKA management confident goalkeeper Fedotov will play next season, despite IIHF sanctions

Management of the Moscow Hockey Club CSKA said he was convinced that the goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov will play the upcoming season, despite sanctions from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the army press service said.

On Monday, the IIHF announced that Fedotov violated his contract as a professional player by signing an agreement with CSKA Moscow without the authorization of the Philadelphia Flyers NHL club, with which he has a valid contract, because the goalkeeper was suspended for four months from September. 1, 2023. CSKA has been sanctioned with an international transfer ban for one year from August 11 this year.

– As for CSKA goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov, he is at the training camp of the main team in the city of Minsk and is preparing for the opening match of Fonbet of the championship of the Continental Hockey League of the season 2023/ 24 against Ak Bars Kazan.

The management of the CSKA hockey club has no doubts that Ivan will participate in the upcoming season, the army club said in a statement.

The new KHL season kicks off on September 1 with the opening Cup match between CSKA and Ak Bars Kazan.

Fedotov has played for CSKA since 2021, won the Gagarin Cup with the club and was named the best goalkeeper of the 2021/22 KHL season. In the summer of 2022, the goaltender signed a rookie contract with Philadelphia, but was later called up for military service. At the end of his service, the 26-year-old goalkeeper signed a two-year deal with CSKA, which was registered by the KHL in July.
