The statement noted that “The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) sent documents to the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, which set out the organization’s position regarding the signing of a contract by goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov with the HC CSKA for the 2023/2024 season. In accordance with the conclusion of the IIHF, the signing of this agreement, while Fedotov has a valid contract with the club Philadelphia Flyers NHL, violates international transfer rules, as a result of which sanctions have been imposed on the player and the HC CSKA.
The documents received from the IIHF have been handed over to HC CSKA for study. The club was given seven days to draw up a further action plan. In the event that the club management decides to challenge the decision of the IIHF, the Russian Hockey Federation will provide HC CSKA with full support in considering the case in the IIHF Disciplinary Committee,” says the press release.
As previously reported, the International Ice Hockey Federation imposed sanctions on Ivan Fedotov and HC CSKA. The Russian goalkeeper was suspended for four months – from September 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. The start of the disqualification coincides with the date of HC CSKA’s first game of the 2023/2024 season. The army club have been banned from international transfers for a year.
