Athletistic/Hockey. Dan Milstein, representative of Russian hockey player Rodion Amirov of the Salavat Yulaev club, shared information about the last days of the young athlete’s life. On August 14, it became known that Amirov died at the age of 21. In February 2022, Amirov was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The hockey player underwent treatment in Russia, Germany and North America.

“In the fall of 2022, the disease worsened. Then the doctors in Toronto gave Rodion only six months. It was the fourth stage of brain cancer.

After that, he returned to Russia, where for the next 10 months Skolkovo doctors fought for his life. But two weeks ago, they confessed their helplessness. Then we decided to try our luck in Germany, where there was the last and very slim chance of salvation. And now it’s gone.

Rodion fought until the end. For a year and a half, since February 2022, despite the deterioration of his condition, when he stopped walking and lost his sight, he never complained.

He even came to Toronto in October not only for treatment, but also to train. He really wanted to get back on the ice. I remember the Toronto general manager, Kyle Dubas, accompanied by Canadian doctors, calling me at 1:18 a.m. and saying, “Bring him home or he might not have the strength to come back. There was a strong aggravation.

We flew from the airport to me in Miami to pick things up. We spent two days on the beach so that Rodion could be distracted. I asked him, “How are you feeling?” “It’s okay, I’m more worried about my parents.”

His thoughts were only about others. He didn’t complain, he fought. And he tried to meet every day with a smile, even when he lost his sight and stopped walking.

When did we last meet? Last week – in Munich, where he was treated. Rodion held on, he never gave up. I was joking and we were laughing, he was still smiling, even when his condition was getting worse and he couldn’t hold his head up. The disease won.

And although in 2022 the doctors only gave him six months, he met April 2023 with a laugh and said, “Canadian doctors, apparently, don’t know anything. Here I am, alive, although they have already buried me. For him, every day was a challenge. He fought his fight with courage and perseverance,” Milshtein shared in an interview with Match TV.
