Sports Minister of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin expressed his condolences over the death of a hockey player Rodion Amirov .
On Monday, the death of Amirov, 21, was reported by officer Dan Milstein. In February 2022, Amirov, then 20, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In April of the same year, the player attended chemotherapy courses.
– The immensely talented and ambitious Rodion fought the disease until the end. It is difficult to accept the loss of such a young athlete. He was a bright star of national hockey, his future was predicted in the best leagues in the world. In 2019, at the World Junior Championships, he became a silver medalist, his contribution to this result is invaluable. I express my sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Rodion Amirov. Amirov graduated from Salavat Yulaev. He has 10 goals and eight assists in 79 KHL games. Amirov was selected 15th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by Toronto. In April 2021, the Russian signed a three-year rookie contract with the Canadian club.
