“Salavat Yulayev” will withdraw from circulation the number 27 under which the striker played Rodion Amirov said club general manager Rinat Bashirov.
– The proposal made by team captain Grigory Panin [о выводе номера из обращения], is accepted. I think we will do it on September 11 in the Salavat home game [с «Магниткой»]. An official ceremony will take place.
The youth tournament, which takes place at the end of August, will be called the Rodion Amirov Cup,” Bashirov said at a press conference, a video excerpt from which was released by the SU press service.
On Monday, the death of Amirov, 21, was reported by officer Dan Milstein. In February 2022, the then 20-year-old hockey player was diagnosed with a brain tumor; in April of the same year, the player underwent chemotherapy courses.
Amirov graduated from Salavat Yulaev. He has 10 goals and eight assists in 79 KHL games. Amirov was selected 15th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by Toronto. In April 2021, the Russian signed a three-year rookie contract with the Canadian club.
