Striker “Lokomotiv” Maxim Chalunov said he hopes for a more successful performance from the team in the new season.
In the 2022/23 season, the Yaroslavl team reached the semi-finals of the Western Conference, where they lost in the series to CSKA Moscow by the score of 3-4. The army team won the championship following the results of the Gagarin Cup.
– After the season, there was an understatement?
– Naturally, when you don’t win the Cup, there will be understatement and dissatisfaction with the season. The main objective was not achieved. But we are growing together and it will be better in the future.
– Was it particularly offensive to lose to the former club (CSKA) in the playoffs?
– It’s a shame to lose in general, and it doesn’t matter who the opponents are – CSKA or not. You always want to win, that’s why we play hockey.
– Do you agree with the opinion that CSKA plays like a robot, like a machine?
We have to be better than the machine.
– Lokomotiv is not considered the favorite in the new KHL season. Maybe it’s for the best?
The season will show it. In general, I don’t like to guess who are the favorites and who are not. It’s a tricky question. I have confidence in our team, in the team. We have a wonderful atmosphere and I think we can handle big tasks. Last season was a full season for the coaching staff, and everyone on the team got used to the demands. Therefore, it became easier to regulate something and introduce something new, which in my opinion is a big plus, – Shalunov is quoted by RB Sport.
The new KHL season kicks off on September 1 with the opening Cup game between CSKA and Ak Bars Kazan.
