On July 9, the American attacker was arrested by police in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was charged with six counts: assault on private property, hooliganism, accident, insubordination and resisting arrest, and threats against police officers. The hockey player was sent to prison, then released on bail.
On Monday, Aug. 21, a Scottsdale court acquitted Galchenyuk of five of six counts, including charges of hooliganism and resisting arrest. One day of the prison sentence, the athlete was credited as served, since he spent a day in police custody. 27 days will be waived after the athlete successfully completes the alcoholism recovery program and 12 months without alcohol.
The American forward with Belarusian roots played in the NHL for Montreal, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Ottawa, Toronto and Colorado. For the 2023/24 season, Galchenyuk re-signed a deal with Arizona, which was terminated 12 days after his arrest.
