Defender CSKA Nikita Nesterov told that the team is motivated by the opportunity to make history by becoming the first club to win three Gagarin Cups in a row.
CSKA have won two Gagarin Cups in the last two KHL seasons. Previously, only Ak Bars (2009, 2010) and Dynamo Moscow (2012, 2013) achieved this.
On September 1, the Army team will fight in Moscow with Ak Bars for the Opening Cup as part of the launch of the new KHL Championship.
– CSKA has been participating in the KHL playoff finals since 2018. Where to get motivated for the new season? Are you not satisfied?
I don’t even know what to discuss here. We are professional athletes, aren’t we? Always want to win. You have only such a task for the season. We will go from match to match for the third Gagarin Cup.
Let them say what they want from us. The end of April will show the result. No one can pass the championship without defeats. But even in January, one should not rush to conclusions.
– What do you expect from the match against Ak Bars, which will take place on September 1st?
– The first game of the season, there will be full stands in Moscow. Our fans are coming back – I read the news and was very happy. We really want to win. Although there is nothing to judge from the first game. And so CSKA’s task is to win every game, to go step by step towards the goal.
