The Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) has unveiled a selection of individual voters to select the best players of the season.
Legendary NHL player Wayne Gretzky voted for captain of “Washington” Alexandra Ovechkina in the elections of the emblematic team of the 2021/22 season.
Gretzky, as an analyst for TNT, picked Ovechkin, Johnny Gaudreau (Calgary) and Jonathan Huberdeau (Florida) as his top three left wingers of the season.
Ovechkin finally took fourth place in the vote for his post – 21 out of 192 journalists included the striker in their list.
This season, Washington was defeated by Florida (2-4) in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Ovechkin has 96 points (51+45) in the regular season and in the playoffs of the 2021/22 season.
