‘The NHL could steal Fedotov if they wanted to’ – Esmantovich, CSKA president

Moscow CSKA Igor Esmantovich said that in the National Hockey League (NHL), they could “steal” the goaltender Ivan Fedotov with some desire.

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) suspended Fedotov from September 1 until the end of 2023 for signing a two-year contract with CSKA Moscow when he had a one-year contract with Philadelphia. CSKA have been sanctioned with a ban on international transfers for a period of one year from August 11 this year.

Earlier, Esmantovich said Fedotov will play for the team when the KHL season begins on September 1. On Friday, CSKA’s president announced that the club will defend its position on the contract before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Are you afraid of a war with the NHL?

– The war with the NHL… It’s a strange thing. Who needs it? And who will fight? Many focus on the fact that someone is going to steal something. Who to steal? For what? So many hockey players who can play in the NHL as a first team. Who to steal?

As for youth, it’s not a question for us or for the NHL, it’s a question of educating the guys who dream of playing there. The memorandum has only been around for more than a season. They could rob Fedotov if they wanted. A question for our young people who want to go play there. And the words “war with the NHL” are very strong, they are presented in the press like that”, reports the correspondent of the remarks of Esmantovich.

The new KHL season will kick off on September 1 with the Cup opener between CSKA and Ak Bars.
