President of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Alexei Morozov stated that in the KHL, there are no restrictions on the number of naturalized players on a team.
Previously, a number of foreign players from KHL clubs had received or expressed a wish to obtain Russian passports in order to no longer be considered foreign players in the league. In particular, American Dynamo Moscow defender Brennan Menell has already received a Russian passport, and Amur defender Cameron Lee and SKA striker Brendan Leipsik from Canada are also applying for citizenship.
— Is there a limit to the number of naturalized players?
– No restrictions. It is everyone’s will to accept this or that citizenship. If some players want to do it, then they do it. When our team returns to international competitions, coaches will have more choices. We do not see a problem in the naturalization of players, – reports the correspondent of , the words of Morozov.
The new KHL season will kick off on September 1 with the Cup opener between CSKA and Ak Bars.
