On Sunday, a presentation of the SKA team for the next KHL season took place at the national sports club Leninskoye, near St. Petersburg. Members of the St. Petersburg club also received bronze medals last season. Guberniev was the host of the event.

As for the presentation of the SKA, I thank the club for their invitation and their support, because it is a rather bold decision, as we understand. Still, I’m a Moscow person, but we have a wonderful relationship with Roman Rotenberg and I definitely sympathize with the SKA team from the point of view that strong competition is necessary in hockey. And of course, we all expect the army team, for example, to reach the final and face an equal opponent. Of course, the same is currently being considered by CSKA, Avangard, Ak Bars, etc. But the hockey is great because we’re looking forward to the crossover playoffs with a lot of tension and fun, because there should be a lot of big hockey.
Most importantly, we now see football and hockey as the types of sport that keep Russia afloat. I can say the same for figure skating and skiing with biathlon. Biathlon in particular, because there are competitions, and it is important that the athletes are loaded. And people are watching him. But now hockey in Russia is more than hockey, because it leads many sports in terms of spectator interest and other things, and therefore, looking at the ambitions and tasks that the SKA sets for itself, we can definitely say that our championship will be even more interesting.
Did they give you a personalized sweater?
– I defiled it! I have a lot of jerseys from different hockey teams. And the SKA made the right choice by calling me, because where we are, there is victory.
– When Alexey Miller came on stage, you spoke warmly. Have you known each other for a long time?
“I have known everyone for a long time. Of course, we don’t see each other very often. He worries about SKA and Zenit, worries about and sincerely wants the channel to grow. And that’s very important to me too. Sometimes we have time to talk about it. That is why particularly important personalities of Russian sport are attracting such attention. Because when we say “Russian sport” we additionally put an equal sign between him and Gazprom, because they are people who help teams, clubs, etc. in various ways. And objects are built, and the sporting heritage remains, and children play sports.
Alexey Borisovich, as a personal SKA fan, undoubtedly deserves the warmest words, because there are people who are fed up with the show and claim they are doing it. But Miller is not like that. He is a very sincere person, for him both the successes of SKA and the problems of the club matter. And the same can be said of Zenith. But even more, it is no coincidence that Alexander Medvedev said that on the eve of the presentation, St. Petersburg clubs play different sports, because we are talking about St. Petersburg sports, and not just SKA and Zenith.
– Basketball, volleyball, and handball are also on the agenda…
– Of course, there is a huge scatter of different types. And all of this must be kept afloat. And healthy competition between the two capitals hasn’t been canceled in many sports, so that’s really great, Guberniev told .
SKA will kick off the KHL regular season on September 2 with an away game against Dynamo Moscow. Last season, two-time Gagarin Cup winners SKA reached the Western Conference final, where they lost to eventual trophy winners CSKA Moscow 2-4 in the series.
