Alexander Yakushev: “Zhamnov at Spartak is similar to Fedorov, who immediately won two Gagarin Cups at CSKA”

Chairman of the Board of Directors “Spartacus” Alexander Yakushev in an interview with , he said that Alexei Jamnov has already become a full-fledged coach.

On March 14, Zhamnov was appointed head coach of Spartak. Since 2015, Zhamnov has been a member of the Red and White management, working as the club’s vice-president and general manager, then as an adviser to the chairman of the supervisory board and head of the Spartak Academy project. Additionally, Zhamnov served as the head coach of Spartak in the 2018/19 KHL season.

– Alexey Zhamnov was once considered a manager, but now he turned out to be a good coach, having even won silver at the Olympics. Can he become a great specialist?

– He has all the prerequisites to become a coach. He almost became one. For what? First of all, a great playing experience, starting with Dynamo Moscow before going to the NHL. Then Zhamnov played for a long time in North America and absorbed the knowledge of NHL coaches who worked with him.

And all those nuances and moments Aleksey passes on to the players, teaching them important details, perhaps invisible to the public. But that’s hockey. In general, Zhamnov resembles Sergei Fedorov, who as a player won three Stanley Cups, and then became a coach – and immediately won two Gagarin Cups in a row.

And they both work without a degree. But rich experience helps. You can see that Zhamnov and Fedorov are already full-fledged coaches who have written their names in the history of our hockey,” Yakushev told .

Since 2016, Zhamnov worked in the Russian national team and became Olympic Games champion (2018), World Championship bronze medalist (2019) and two-time Euro Tour winner (2019, 2021). Since 2021 he has been working as the head coach of the Russian national team, winning with it silver medals at the Beijing Olympics (2022). Sergei Fedorov was part of his coaching staff as an assistant.
