Defender of CSKA Moscow Yaroslav Dyblenko said that three days before the opening KHL Cup game with Ak Bars, it became clear to him that military team goaltender Ivan Fedotov would take to the ice.
The match for the KHL Opening Cup ended with the score 5:2 in favor of the Kazan team. Fedotov, who is under sanctions from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), entered the ice in CSKA’s starting lineup.
“I realized that Fedotov would come to today’s game when Vanya started preparing for the game, it became clear two or three days before the game,” reports the correspondent, as per the comments by Dyblenko.
During the meeting between CSKA and Ak Bars, it became known that the IIHF had fined the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) 5,000 Swiss francs for Fedotov’s participation in the match. The IIHF also said Fedotov’s case would be referred to the organization’s disciplinary board for review. And if Fedotov continues to play for CSKA without a valid transfer, the IIHF will turn to the Disciplinary Board, which can impose additional sanctions on the parties involved, including Fedotov, CSKA and the FHR.
