Before “Akbarsa » Dmitry Kagarlitsky after beating CSKA in the match for the opening KHL Cup, he said that in the Kazan club they jokingly discussed the participation of the goalkeeper of the military club Ivan Fedotov in the match.
The meeting in Moscow ended with the score 5:2 in favor of Kazan. Fedotov, who is under sanctions from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), entered the ice in CSKA’s starting lineup.
You made history by scoring the first goal of the season.
– Yes, I was lucky, especially since I had never participated in the Opening Cup before. And then the very first game of the season – and I scored.
Did you at least touch the opening cup?
– No. This is not the trophy we are here for.
– How similar is this match to any other match in the final between Ak Bars and CSKA?
– There was a certain similarity. And I will in no way say that it was summer hockey. Fights from the first shifts, kinds of joints, blows. It was good hockey. It wasn’t Game 7 of the playoffs, of course, but it was close. Normal game, power struggle. It’s good that they finally scored in the majority.
– When did Ak Bars reverse the situation?
– I think when the second, then immediately the third puck flew into their gates. It was a good break. Then the opponent reduced the score to 3:2. But judging by the store, we weren’t nervous. Everything was fine and calm.
– Do you personally study other people’s guardians?
– We are looking for a goalkeeper specialist, who tells you how to play against whom. Well, we knew Fedotov well. Who doesn’t know him? I think he played well. It’s good that we won. I think Fedotov played as usual. It’s just that for him there have been missed rebounds and other unfortunate moments. The same puck from Vadik Shipachyov – it was extremely difficult to take it. Well, mine, of course, was usually impossible to take (laughs).
Are you happy the Fedotov saga is over?
– Well, sure, let the guy play. He has come a long way to come back. Yes, playfully we discussed in the locker room whether Fedotov would play. Because everyone was talking about us. But no one at Ak Bars focused on her figure. Let the guy play. He played in the Olympics for the Russian team and helped win silver. What questions could he ask? So let him play. But he lacks more Ak Bars, especially in the final, Kagarlitsky told .
During the meeting between CSKA and Ak Bars, it became known that the IIHF had fined the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) 5,000 Swiss francs for Fedotov’s participation in the match. The IIHF also said Fedotov’s case would be referred to the organization’s disciplinary board for review. And if Fedotov continues to play for CSKA without a valid transfer, the IIHF will turn to the Disciplinary Board, which may impose additional sanctions on Fedotov, CSKA and the FHR.
