Athletistic/Hockey. Former NHL and KHL team head coach Mike Keenan expressed his opinion that many KHL teams belong to the oligarchs and cited as an example his experience at the Metallurg club in Magnitogorsk, which belongs to Viktor Rashnikov, an oligarch and owner of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant.

He said: “Basically the KHL belongs to the oligarchs. Each of them should have their own hockey team. In the case of Magnitogorsk, it was clearly visible, the owner of the club also had a steel plant with 60,000 jobs. In this case, my employer also owned the factory.”

Keenan led Metallurg Magnitogorsk from 2013 to 2015 and won the Gagarin Cup with the team in 2014.

  • Schemberg: “The KHL can now be considered a league that ignores international rules and has become a kind of ‘pariah'”
