Dmitry Fedorov, 51, worked for 31 years in television, was a host of and director of KHL TV. Two years ago, he graduated from the Higher Coaching School, trained at Dynamo Moscow, and on June 15, 2023 announced his retirement from KHL TV, becoming assistant head coach of the Chaika (MHL) team.
– What to expect from Torpedo and Chaika in the new season?
– We do not deviate from our principles – to develop youth. Torpedo head coach Igor Larionov stays the course. That’s what we did all pre-season. The guys are good, young. Some were even born in 2006. Let’s see, I just wish everyone good luck.
After the championship season, Chaika was also updated, the coaching staff changed – the team was led by Alexei Isakov. I like that there is a very good contact between the coaches. And above all, we try to teach the guys to play offensive hockey.
– A very important story for is that our long-time presenter, KHL TV chief Dmitry Fedorov, made his debut as Chaika’s coach. Did you approve it yourself? Who is Fedorov for you – a video specialist, an image man?
– Dima is an assistant to the head coach. I tell you officially. This is his position, and he does it. He takes on many responsibilities in the psychological preparation of children. Fedorov is very strong in this sense. He subtly notices things that are not really noticeable at first glance. I wish Dima a successful coaching career.
Does he really know hockey? Or just a degree?
– Understood, yes. He has thoughts. Another thing is that hockey is not that simple. Many of us play sports. But transferring some ideas to ice can be problematic. At the same time, we see that Fedorov lives for hockey, bout, and we like that.
– Did he have a conversation with Larionov?
– This happens very often with us, and the Torpedo base is not closed to anyone, especially from the coaches of their system. Coaches come to us not only from Chaika, but also from junior teams and children’s schools. Meetings are taking place, we are discussing,” Kharlamov told .
According to the results of the last MHL season, Nizhny Novgorod’s “Chaika” became champions after winning the Kharlamov Cup. In the final, the Omsk Hawks were beaten 4-2 in the series.
