CEO”Torpedo Alexander Kharlamov, in an interview with , spoke about the Fedotov brothers’ transition to SKA.
On July 4, SKA and Torpedo made an exchange, as a result of which defender Maxim Fedotov and striker Ilya Fedotov joined the list of Petersburg. Both players have signed four-year contracts. In return, Nizhny Novgorod received the rights to striker Danil Savunov and defender Yegor Zamula, as well as monetary compensation.
– The fact that the Fedotov brothers moved to SKA – Torpedo can’t compete with the clubs of oligarchs?
We only wish them good luck. Initially, the players themselves expressed a desire to try themselves outside of Nizhny Novgorod. There were proposals, we studied them, discussed with the coaches. And they came to the conclusion: well, you don’t have to be nice. So they moved to another club.
– Torpedo received for the Fedotovs not only the rights to two players, but also 110 million rubles in compensation, according to . Can the system whereby a mid-budget KHL club lives off the sale of its students work?
— Such an economic model can be. But it all depends on the club’s missions. It is very difficult to light stars and then resell them. It’s even a bit embarrassing as a human being. If we want a good result, we have to try to keep these players at home. At the same time, we must of course take an interest in the economic model. We have different budgets for each club.
– Can Torpedo participate in the fight of the big players? For example, off-season Damir Zhafyarov was released with an annual salary of 80 million rubles. He was playing in Nizhny Novgorod, his fans love him. Could your club claim it?
“Theoretically, we can. Of course, we will weigh the pros and cons. And we will talk with the player, and the coach will talk with him. But if we’re trying to hire great players, then they need to understand where they’re going – and the coaches need to know what’s expected of them. In the case of Torpedo, such a transition needs to be discussed and thought out for a long time,” Kharlamov told .
Both Fedotov brothers were included in SKA’s starting lineup for the first regular season game against Dynamo Moscow (2:1) – Ilya and Maxim played in the third game without scoring points.
