The 1972 Olympic champion in the USSR national team, Alexander Pashkov, told that the goalkeeping career Anton Khudobin passed the summit.
On Monday, it became known that Khudobin, 37, had joined All-Russian Hockey League (VHL) club Sokol as a free agent. The last Russian team was the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL).
– I do not know the exact circumstances why Khudobin did not join the KHL team, I can only speculate. Probably, his abilities are not suitable for KHL teams. I admit that there are personal, family or material motivations.
Again, Khudobin is 37, it’s an outrageous age. Of course, we can still last a year or two in hockey, but physiology cannot be wrong. Moreover, he has many injuries and his career has reached its peak. In the life of every athlete, it is inevitable: the rise, the peak of a career, then the decline. These are the laws of life. We wish Anton good health. Sport gives a lot, but it also takes a lot, first of all health, – Pashkov told .
From 2018 to 2022, Khudobin played for the Dallas Stars, with whom he reached the 2020 Stanley Cup Finals, where he lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning (2-4).
Also in the NHL, the goalie played for the Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks. In total, he played 260 league matches and won 114 wins. As a member of the Russian national team, he became world champion in 2014.
