“We work closely with Larionov headquarters. 11 Chaika players immediately visited Torpedo this summer – coach Dmitry Fedorov

Assistant head coach of Nizhny Novgorod Chaika, playing in the Youth Hockey League (MHL), Dmitry Fedorov, in an interview with , told how the Nizhny Novgorod hockey vertical works.

The head coach of the club Nizhny Novgorod KHL “Torpedo” Igor Larionov has been working since the second year. From the 2023/24 season, Dmitry Fedorov, leaving the post of head of KHL TV, began to work as an assistant head coach “Seagulls” .

– Explain what exactly you are responsible for in “La Mouette”?

– For example, preparation for throw-ins. We work with the puck on the ice, with ball hockey balls in the shooting zone, training the reaction. We discuss how best to act on this point – with a reverse or comfortable grip, which arrangement is more correct. Lots of different shades. This is my area of responsibility. And when Chaika loses in face-offs, it’s all my fault.

Certainly psychology. We had a meeting on mental psychological preparation. If we are inferior in this aspect, it is also my fault. You cannot lose confidence in your abilities. So I didn’t work during the match and I had to say the right words.

Our head coach is Alexey Isakov. I have never met such a sexy person! He is at work from morning to evening, analyzing videos, theory, offering interesting exercises. I’ve never seen him in a bad mood. He’s excited all the time and that carries over to the players. The same goes for his assistant Dmitry Kosmachev. They are great professionals, just like goalkeeping coach Alexander Pimankin.

– How does Chaika’s staff communicate with Igor Larionov?

– In the summer, we went to the Torpedo training camps at the Sea of sports base, which is two hours from Nizhny Novgorod. We clarified some nuances with Igor Nikolayevich in terms of tactics and team preparation. They asked Alexei Gennadievich (Isakov) a lot of questions, and Larionov answered, prompted.

In the spring, I was also present at a small gathering of young people, where they examined the players for four days. There I absorbed the Torpedo coaching staff a lot – not only from Larionov, but also from Mikhail Vasilyev, Nikolai Khabibulin.

I imagine the values of our KHL club. And I constantly say to the guys in the youth team: “Look, that’s how it is in Torpedo. That’s where it counts.” And we see that Chaika players are taken for several days, and sometimes for a longer period, to the main team.

We work closely with Larionov headquarters. And the fact that 11 Chaika players traveled to the Torpedo simultaneously over the summer is a significant achievement. And maximum motivation,” Fedorov told .

On Monday, Dmitry Fedorov picked up his first victory of his coaching career when Chaika beat the Omsk Hawks 3-2 in an MHL game.
