Chairman of the Board of Directors S.K.A. Alexander Medvedev in a conversation with , he recalled the deaths of hockey players and coaches from Yaroslavl Locomotive during the 2011 plane crash, noting that this tragedy will be remembered for decades.
Exactly 12 years ago, on September 7, the main team of Lokomotiv died in a plane crash near Yaroslavl. The tragedy happened during the departure for the opening match of the season in Minsk. Medvedev went on to serve as president of the KHL.
– A tragedy that will leave us nowhere, neither in our memory nor in our hearts. The SKA team arrived in Yaroslavl today and first went to the memorial, to the place of the plane crash. A number of guys were not there for the first time, the tradition is constant and noble: to visit the place of the accident, the memorial near the palace, if for some reason there is not enough time , or the burial place of our guys. It shows once again that life is short and you have to cherish every second of it.
Is this the saddest episode of your whole life?
– The most tragic. Because there was a shock. There was hope that the guys would survive. Well, the struggle for life of one of the hockey players continued, which was not crowned with a victory over death. I am very happy that the memory of this Lokomotiv does not disappear anywhere. And he leaves not only Yaroslavl, but all of Russia. No matter who the fans worry about, no matter where the hockey players play, they know, remember and honor the memory of this team. And this remains in the memory, if not for centuries, then for decades, that’s absolutely certain, – Medvedev told .
SKA will play against Lokomotiv on Friday, September 8. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. Moscow time.
