The head coach “Salavata Yulaeva” Viktor Kozlov answered the question of whether the ceremony in memory of hockey player Rodion Amirov could have influenced the team’s players before the Fonbet KHL championship match against Metallurg.
On Monday, the Ufa club lost on its ice with a score of 1:2. Before the match, a sweater with the number 27, under which Amirov played for Salavat Yulaev, was hoisted under the arches of the Ufa arena.
— How did you feel during the ceremony before the match? What emotions did you feel when they got Amirov’s sweater back?
– It’s a tragedy. We know what the family went through, how Rodion fought the illness. He was a decent, kind, friendly guy. No one was indifferent to him. He was loved and was a good friend. The family and parents have gone through many challenges and have shown resilience. Much respect to them.
— Could the ceremony influence the progress of the match?
— It was clear that the arms and legs were heavy. Lots of marriages and strange decisions. It was clear that we were forcing things. We did more than was possible in this situation. It’s the first match, there’s a nerve. “Thanks to the fans, the atmosphere is great, they supported us until the very end,” Kozlov said according to the Salavat press service.
