General Manager of an NHL club Colorado Avalanche Chris McFarland says the club is counting on the Russian striker Valeria Nichushkina next season.
“He’s the most important part of our team.” I believe Val will come back and have a monster year with us. We count on him, he has been such a force for us. With Lundy (Gabriel Landeskog) out, we need Nichushkin’s size and strength to play a big role again. I’m sure he will,” McFarland quotes, according to The Athletic.
The Russian has not played for Colorado since the incident at a Seattle hotel on April 23, the day of Game 3 of the first-round playoff series against the Seattle Kraken. According to the police report, an intoxicated woman was found in Nichushkin’s room and the team doctor called an ambulance to take her to the hospital. Then the hockey player left Seattle and has not returned to the team since.
Colorado lost to Seattle 3-4 in the first round of the NHL playoffs.
Nichushkin scored 47 points (17+30) in 53 regular season games in the 2022/23 season and scored one goal in two playoff games.
