Earlier, the Washington captain responded to a question from Izvestia about his reaction to Hasek’s criticism of the NHL regarding the lack of measures against Russian players: “I don’t particularly care about his statements. NHL clubs select players based on skill and ability, not nationality.
“Alexander Ovechkin, playing in the NHL, represents his country, serves as an advertisement for Russia. And, of course, the NHL, allowing him and other Russian hockey players to play, advertises this country. For each season of such Russian advertising, the NHL is obliged to pay 2-4 billion dollars to Ukraine,” Hasek noted in an interview with Match TV.
In the previous NHL season, 50 Russian field players and 12 Russian goaltenders appeared on the ice.
