Agent Milstein explained why Sorokin earns less per NHL season than Bobrovsky

Agent Dan Milstein explained to why the New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin earns less per NHL season than Florida goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky despite a more accomplished performance.

Previously, Sorokin extended his contract with the Islanders for another eight years. For the 2023/24 season, his salary will amount to $4 million. And then a new eight-year contract comes into effect, under the terms of which Sorokin will earn an average of $8.25 million per year.

At the end of last season, Sorokin took second place in the Vezina Trophy voting, losing the title of best goaltender in the league to Boston’s Linus Ullmark. And in voting for the Hart Trophy, the most valuable player award, Sorokin passed Ullmark and scored the most points among goalies, although the award ultimately went to Edmonton forward Connor McDavid.

— Why does Ilya Sorokin earn less than Sergei Bobrovsky?

— Ilya did not want to change clubs, he did not want to enter the contract year without a contract, so we discussed with the club about the contract for 4-5 months. We took the same $66 million. They divided it into 8 years. It turned out to be 8:25. He gave the club one year, but signed an 8-year contract; he didn’t start the year without a contract,” Milshtein said on .

In July 2019, Russian guard Bobrovsky signed a 7-year contract with the Florida Panthers worth $70 million.
