Officer Dan Milstein spoke on about how he helped and supported the student. “Salavata Yulaeva” Rodrion Amirova died of a brain tumor.
In February 2022, Amirov was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The death of the 21-year-old hockey player was announced on August 14.
— Amirov died recently. You accompanied him. How did you survive this tragedy?
“From the first news of the illness, I was with him. I came to him to bring him things and pills. I have been in contact with him every day lately, helping him and his family.
Rodion was simply a good person and a great athlete with a bright future. But above all, he is a good person! From the first to the last day of his illness, I was with him and his family.
Every agent dreams of lifting the Stanley Cup every day. And we’re working on it, but it’s only half a percent of what we actually do. I had to tell his parents the diagnosis when the doctors in Toronto gave him 3 to 6 months. And when he only had a few hours left, his parents also found out from me. I share my grief with them. Although I can’t imagine what they went through.
– How did he react?
“He never gave up until the last day.” I took him to Florida to swim in the ocean before going to Moscow for treatment. I then asked him how he was. He replied that everything was fine, but that he was worried about his parents.
— How did Ufa react to grief?
— Many thanks to the management of Salavat Yulaev, fans around the world and fans of Ufa. There have been tens of thousands of messages with words of support for him. It was difficult to be in the arena during the farewell without tears,” Milstein said on .
Amirov is a student of Salavat Yulaev. He has 10 goals and eight assists in 79 games in the KHL. In the 2020 NHL Draft, Amirov was selected 15th overall by Toronto. In April 2021, the Russian signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Canadian club.
