Babcock said his resignation as Columbus head coach was “in the best interest of the organization.”

Member of the Triple Gold Club Mike Babcock explained why he decided to leave the position of head coach “Columbus” .

Previously, Babcock was accused of forcing the club’s players to show personal photos on their phones.

— Continuing to work as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets would be too detrimental to the club’s successful activities. Although I am disappointed not to have the opportunity to continue the work I started. But I know it will be best for the interests of the organization if I leave now. “I wish all employees of the club good luck in the coming season,” the coach said, as quoted by the Columbus press service.

Babcock took over the team on July 1, 2023. Before that, he was unemployed since 2019 when he left Toronto. Pascal Vincent, who worked as Babcock’s assistant in Columbus, became the new head coach.

Babcock is the only hockey coach in history to become a member of the Triple Gold Club. As head coach, he led his teams to victory at the Olympic Games (Team Canada in 2010 and 2014) and the World Championships (Team Canada, 2004), and also won the Stanley Cup (Detroit, 2008 ).
