Athletistic/Hockey. Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery shared his thoughts on the situation surrounding Capital forwards Evgeny Kuznetsov and Anthony Mantha. Previously, the media reported that the Russian and Canadian were on the verge of being traded from the team.

“My job is to help players see where they need to improve, then give them confidence and get them back to that level. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always work. There’s no magic powder yet .But at the end of Today, I understand that my job is to get the best out of Evgeniy Kuznetsov and Anthony Mantha, and also to help them achieve their goals.

It doesn’t happen like, “Okay. You need to do this, this, and this. Good luck.” I must help the hockey player achieve his goal, help him identify the situations in which he does his job well, and in which he does the opposite. And it will be no different than dealing with any other hockey player trying to reach their full potential.

I really believe that Zhenya and Anthony will come back and be extremely motivated. They want to do well, they want to be the best, they want to win against Washington and win a ton of games this season.

So it’s a great situation. Two very motivated players who I think will come back and do a great job for our team. And I will do everything I can to help them,” Carbery said on the Break the Ice podcast.

Evgeny Kuznetsov played 81 games in the NHL last season and managed to score 55 points for his performance – he scored 12 goals and had 43 assists. Note that the 31-year-old Russian has become the best assistant in the capital.

Kuznetsov’s contract with Washington is valid until June 30, 2025. His cap hit (average contract salary) is $7.8 million.

The 2023/2024 NHL regular season begins October 11.
