Three-time Stanley Cup-winning forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins Sydney Crosby said what rule he would be willing to welcome back to hockey.
– I don’t want to add this or consider it a rule… I just want to see it: the return of the red line. I would like to see how this affects the game. You knew that when this rule was in effect there were many hooks, but today everything would be completely different. I think it will force passes a little more. I would just like to see a combination of how we play now with the red line returning versus what it looked like when it first appeared,” Crosby said as quoted by ESPN.
The red line was abolished in the NHL after the lockout ended during the 2004–05 season. The rule stipulated that the puck remained in play if it was sent into the opposing zone only after the player crossed the red line, located in the middle of the ice. You can now pass from your own half.
