SKA Rotenberg coach explained why he remembers breaking the siege of Leningrad after the victory over Severstal

The head coach SKA Romain Rotenberg explained why he remembered breaking the blockade of Leningrad after the victory over Severstal in the Fonbet KHL championship match.

On Wednesday, SKA defeated Severstal at home with a score of 4:1 and ended a five-game losing streak in the KHL. After the match, Rotenberg compared the victory to breaking the siege of Leningrad.

— I was born in Leningrad. There are people in my family who survived the blockade. Every year in January, we, our team, our club, our entire city celebrate the date of his breakthrough. For 12 years now we have been playing in the uniform of Leningrad, inviting to the stands people who personally saw this tragedy – one of the greatest in the history of mankind.

As a team, we often use these people as examples. We tell you how, thanks to their resilience, their heroism and their love of life, they survived the worst times for the good of future generations. We didn’t live through those years ourselves, but we know those who did. It is extremely important to pass it on to the younger generation, to say how difficult it can be in our lives, to show true values. As a team, we watch a lot of films about the Great Patriotic War, support our veterans and do everything so that their memory does not fade.

I live and work in my hometown. Breaking the blockade of Leningrad is of great importance to me as an example of courage and love of life, thanks to which even the worst circumstances can be overcome,” Rotenberg wrote on the Telegram channel.
