After the death of Eugene Melnick, owner of the team since 2003, ownership of the club was inherited by his daughters Anna and Olivia. In late August, the sale of Ottawa was approved by the NHL executive committee. It should be noted that the amount of the transaction will amount to approximately $950 million.

Ottawa made its NHL debut in the 1992-93 season. Currently, his best result is reaching the Stanley Cup Final in the 2006/2007 season.

Last summer, Russian forward Vladimir Tarasenko signed a contract with Ottawa. Defender Artyom Zub has also been playing in the team for several years.
