Russian goalkeeper Toronto Maple Leafs Ilia Samsonov admitted he was happy to stay with the Canadian club for another season.
During the offseason, the 26-year-old Russian was awarded a one-year contract with Toronto for $3.55 million following arbitration hearings. Samsonov requested arbitration because he did not agree with the salary offered by the club. According to media reports, he wanted to receive $4.9 million, and the club was ready to pay him 2.4 million.
“Now I feel better, I’m in good shape. I’m happy to be here. Another year in a great team with great partners. I’m very happy to see everyone, I feel good in Toronto, the contract situation? Of course I was worried. It’s my future, I’ve thought about it, but it’s just business. We were ready for this with my agent [Доном Миханом]. I spoke with Brad Treliving (general manager of Toronto – ed. ) after the arbitration. It was a very pleasant discussion. The contract situation is already a thing of the past, quotes Samsonov in the Toronto Sun.
Last season, Samsonov played 42 games for Toronto in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and had 27 victories with a reliability coefficient of 2.33 and 91.9% of saved shots.
