Athletistic / Hockey. Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery talked about Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin’s first workout ahead of the new season. Previously, the mentor and the hockey player crossed paths in training camps, when Carbery led the Washington farm club.
“Ovi has a lot of energy, I love his smile. Maybe I haven’t spent enough time with him to know that it’s really him. But I felt that Alex was very happy to being back on the ice… He just…” Okay, I’ll say it again. I think he’s always ready. He constantly asks me questions: How can we help the team win? What do we have to do ? Where should I go ? What are we going to change?
Ovechkin is so interested in helping our team win! As a head coach, especially as a first-time head coach, it’s just nice to hear and see all that. I think he’s a special captain,” Carbery said in Washington.
Alexander Ovechkin has played for Washington since 2005. The Russian was selected by the Capitals with the first pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his entire career overseas with Washington. In 2018, the Russian helped the Capitals win the first Stanley Cup in club history.
Last season in the NHL, Ovechkin participated in 73 regular season games and scored 75 points for his performance – 42 goals and 33 assists. In total, he has 822 accurate shots in the NHL, making him the second sniper in league history.
