Athletistic / Hockey. Washington Capitals general manager Brian McLellan spoke about the future of forward Evgeny Kuznetsov. As the offseason progressed, the Russian’s name constantly appeared in trade rumors.

“I know Spencer has spoken with Evgeniy several times. I hope Kuznetsov, like the rest of the players, will be energized by our new young coach, with a slightly different philosophy. Spencer is full of enthusiasm, now he is building a relationship with Kuzi. I believe that all this will happen in a positive way for him.

It seems to me that the style in which Spencer wants to play, his playing philosophy suits Kuznetsov perfectly. I think Evgeniy should fit that and adapt well to our new style of play,” McLellan said, as quoted by the Washington press service.

Evgeny Kuznetsov was selected by the Washington Capitals in the 1st round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, 26th overall. The Chelyabinsk Traktor graduate moved to North America in 2014 and four years later helped the capital’s team win the Stanley Cup. The 31-year-old Russian’s contract with the American capital club runs until the end of the 2024/2025 season.
