The head coach SKA Romain Rotenberg told how the team managed to cope with a series of failures.
On Saturday, SKA Khabarovsk defeated Amur with a score of 4:0 in the Fonbet KHL championship match.
— For the second consecutive match, SKA scores four goals and wins. Already out of a bad streak?
— I remember a conversation with an Olympic champion from the USSR national team. I asked how it was that in 1980 our team lost to the Americans in the Olympics. And he replied: “We don’t remember defeats, we only remember victories.” » This is our psychology. In hockey, in sports and in life, we need to start today and think about how we can improve our game. Quality hockey does not always translate into results. Today our play was of high quality – that translated into the result, but in sport it happens in different ways. Just work. In some matches this season we were much better than in the last championship, where we had winning streaks. But what is past is past. We continue to work and prepare for the next very important match.
— Artemy Pleshkov showed himself brilliantly in the last two matches. Is your team changing its starting goalie?
“I’m very happy that Artemy can do this.” Today Alex Galchenyuk scored his first goals for us. The goalkeeper played phenomenally, but the whole team helped him. The goalkeeper’s job is on the last line, but there is also a first line – the attackers, the second – the defenders. Everyone helped Pleshkov, but he was also great. Mattsson is injured and will be out for an extended period of time. Other guys in such a situation take on the role of leaders. May God grant Artemy good luck to continue working and playing like this. I already said that I followed him, that I went to the MHL games in Stupino. He is a very interesting, courageous goalkeeper. This courage is transmitted to the entire team. His eyes light up, and this carries over to our other guys. It’s important when a person’s eyes light up. We will discuss technical issues with the goalkeeper coaches and make a decision on the next match. It has not yet been adopted,” Rotenberg was quoted as saying by the SKA press service.
SKA scored 8 points and is in seventh place in the Western Conference, having won a second consecutive victory after a series of five defeats.
