Dynamo Moscow striker Eric O’Dell said he would be forced to change teams if his teammate Brennan Menell I would not have become a Russian citizen.
In July, American defenseman Menell received Russian sports citizenship and lost his status as a foreign player in the KHL. In August, Canadian forward O’Dell signed a new deal with the Blue and White.
– My agent took care of everything, led all the negotiations. I just came home myself – I knew I wanted to stay at Dynamo, and I just went home to enjoy the summer, I was in no hurry. I knew that I would get a job in the league anyway, but of course I wanted to return to Dynamo.
When Paquette was signed, the situation became a bit more complicated as all three vacant foreign positions at the club were filled. It took a while to figure out how to sign myself too. Because I wanted to come back myself, and the club wanted me, but there was no more room. And then, very successfully, Menell became a Russian citizen and I was able to get a place in the team. If Brennan hadn’t received his passport I would have had to change teams,” O’Dell told Championship.
O’Dell has defended the colors of Dynamo since 2021.
