FHU President Zubko: Shakhraichuk honestly helped Ukrainian hockey, I cannot make an assessment regarding his documents

The Federation removed the specialist from his duties as head coach of the Ukrainian national team

The president Ukrainian Hockey Federation (UHU) Georgiy Zubko commented on the situation with the former head coach of the Ukrainian national team Vadim Shakhraichuk.

“I am not a court or another investigative body. I cannot define and give such assessments. We perceive Vadim Shakhraichuk as a famous, honored Ukrainian player and coach who honestly worked in favor of the Ukrainian national team. If they are established by professional bodies and other documents are provided to us… For now, we must be united.”

“I have been working with Shakhraichuk personally for three years, and I have never seen any, even small, anti-Ukrainian moments from him. For me, Shakhraichuk is a person who has helped and, I hope, will help Ukrainian hockey, the national team and teams, players. Today he is the coach of the Kyiv Capitals, and we wish this club good luck.”

It is reported that on May 15, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasily Malyuk informed the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit that the head coach of the Ukrainian national hockey team Vadim Shakhraichuk has a Russian passport.

In early September, the FHU Disciplinary Committee opened a case against Shakhraichuk. Later, the Federation announced the removal of the specialist from his duties as head coach of the Ukrainian national team.

Vadim Shakhraichuk, a former famous striker, participant, Olympic Games 2002, led the Ukrainian national team in March 2021. In July 2023, it became known that the coach would combine work for the Kyiv Capitals and the national team.
