Pittsburgh says Malkin will leave club if he doesn’t accept ‘reasonable’ contract

President of Hockey Operations “Pittsburgh Penguins” Brian Burke commented on the contract situation Evgenia Malkina and Chris Letang.

“We made a determined effort to sign Chris Letang. Less decisive with Malkin, but only out of a desire to know how much money we will have for the job. We are in direct negotiations with Malkin’s agent, but less intense. D First one has to be signed, then the other, or maybe none of them. The climax is coming soon.

We want to sign both players, but they have to come back on terms and wages that make sense. Otherwise, they will leave. They have to renew their contracts on reasonable terms or they won’t be with us,” Bourque said.

Malkin was selected by Pittsburgh in the 2004 NHL Draft with the second overall pick. The striker has been defending the colors of the team since 2006, in the regular season he played a total of 981 games, scoring 1146 points (444 + 702). As part of the Penguins, Malkin became a three-time Stanley Cup winner (2009, 2016, 2017).
