Canadian defender ryan murphy says why he decided to reconstruct the composition “Salavat Yulaev” .
On Wednesday June 29, the 29-year-old hockey player signed an agreement with the Ufa club for one season.
“Negotiations were quick and easy,” Murphy said as quoted by the SU official website. – I will return to the KHL to win with the team and demonstrate my best qualities on the ice. I would be happy to join a team that has a championship history.
– Have you ever discussed your role in the team with the head coach?
– So far we have not communicated personally, but I think that very soon we will talk with Viktor Kozlov about the role in which he sees me.
— A few words about your style of play. Which hockey do you prefer to play?
“I’ve always been a shooting guard, but over time I’m improving and I’ve already learned to play well both in attack and in defence.
– You have already played in Ufa for the rivals of Salavat and for the youth team. What are your impressions of the atmosphere and the fans?
– I played in Ufa with great pleasure. I remember how I played for the Canadian team at the World Junior Championships, and in the bronze medal match, we lost to the Russian team. At KHL games, I enjoyed every second – a packed arena and fans who were very supportive of the team. What else can you dream of?
— There are very demanding fans in Ufa. Ready for the pressure?
“With huge fan support, there’s always a lot of pressure, but that doesn’t scare me. The best players can play their best hockey under pressure and I believe I am that type of hockey player.
“What can you say about Ufa?”
— I’ve always liked coming here: a beautiful city, good people and a great team.
What are your personal goals for the season?
— My goal is to help the team win every match and become champions.
Murphy spent last season with the Detroit Red Wings, playing in the AHL for the Grand Rapids Griffins. In total, in the NHL, he played 175 games and scored 43 (8 + 35) points.
Earlier in the KHL, the Canadian played for Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk and Dynamo Minsk.
