The Finnish president no longer wants to play hockey with Putin

The President of Russia, in his invasion of Ukraine, discouraged Sauli Niiniste from coming out on the ice together.

The President of Finland has said he will no longer play hockey with Putin. It should be noted that earlier Sauli Niiniste went on the ice with the head of the Kremlin, but the last time was in 2012. Apparently, the war in Ukraine, launched by Moscow in 2014, weakened Niinista’s desire to befriend the president of Russia.

“A picture with Putin at a hockey game? It’s 2012, my first visit to Russia. No, I’m never going to play hockey with him again.

Changes in 10 years? I will not call Putin a partner, “La Repubblica quoted Niiniste as saying.

Recall that according to the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation, all national and club teams of Russia do not qualify from international tournaments. In particular, the Russian men’s team did not play in the Ice Hockey World Championship, held in Finland.

In the final of the hockey tournament at the Winter Games in Beijing, the Finns defeated the Russians by a score of 2: 1.
