Athletistic/Hockey. Tampa Bay Lighting defenseman Mikhail Sergachev spoke about the behavior of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman in the context of events in Ukraine. Furthermore, he appreciated Bettman’s attitude towards the captain of the Washington Capitals and the Russian national team, Alexander Ovechkin.

“Does Gary Bettman have double standards? They probably exist. But Gary is a good leader, and such a person must always be flexible. He does not bend under Ovechkin, but lets him play in the NHL. Bettman rightly said that Alexander plays for the club, he scores a lot of pucks, he is an NHL legend and it is impossible to write him off just for his political views. On the other hand, there is certain things that make Bettman shy away from political statements. It seems to me that here, as elsewhere, there are double standards in political matters, so I am not surprised by this,” Sergachev said in an interview to the YouTube channel. “Attention: Sobchak”.

Alexander Ovechkin has played for Washington since 2005. The Russian was chosen by the Capitals with the first number in the 2004 NHL draft. He spent his entire career overseas with Washington. In 2018, the Russian helped the Capitals win the first Stanley Cup in club history.

Last season in the NHL, Ovechkin participated in 73 regular season games and scored 75 points for his performance – 42 goals and 33 assists. In total, he has 822 accurate shots in the NHL, making him the second sniper in league history.
