Russian attacker Carolina Hurricanes Andrei Svechnikov will miss the start of the NHL regular season, the hockey player has not yet recovered from his injury, said the team’s head coach Rod Brindamore.
Svechnikov suffered damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee joint in March and required surgery. In mid-July, the 23-year-old Russian began training on the ice. In the opening game of the new season, Carolina will host the Ottawa Senators on October 11.
“We were hoping he would be ready.” It looks good, but it’s not something you want to rush into. It’s close, but not ready yet. So we will have to do without it for a while. The medical staff must meet certain criteria: Will Svechnikov and his team participate in a six-game road series after the home game? Most likely no. Let’s see. We leave on Thursday or Friday, so I don’t expect that to happen,” Brindammore told the NHL website.
Svechnikov played 347 games in the regular NHL championships and scored 264 points (112 goals and 152 assists).
