Russian goalkeeper New York Rangers Igor Shesterkin who the day before helped the team beat “Buffalo” (5:1), set a club record.
For Shesterkin, the victory was the 100th in the regular NHL championships, for this the Russian needed 159 matches. No one in Rangers history has reached that mark faster than him.
Additionally, the NHL Statistics Department reports that Shesterkin became the seventh goaltender to achieve 100 regular season wins in fewer than 160 games. The absolute record for this indicator is still held by Canadian Bill Durnan, who defended the colors of Montreal in the 1940s (139).
Shesterkin, 27, has played for the Rangers since 2019, and in the 2021-22 season he was awarded the Vezina Trophy, awarded annually to the best goaltender in the NHL.
