Athletistic / Hockey. Last night, New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin helped his team defeat the Buffalo Sabers (5:1) in the NHL regular season game. The 27-year-old Russian stopped 24 of 25 shots against his side.
The victory was Shesterkin’s 100th in the NHL. The Russian reached this mark in 159 matches. It is noteworthy that Igor Shesterkin achieved the seventh best time in the history of the North American League to reach 100 victories. Those who have reached this mark faster than him in history are Bill Durnan (in 139 games), Michel Laroque (148), Frank Brimsek (150), Bob Frose (155), Chris Osgood and Tiny Thompson (in 158) .
It is worth noting that no goalkeeper in Rangers history has achieved 100 victories in fewer than 187 matches. Thus, Shesterkin became the leader of the franchise for this indicator.
