Athletistic / Hockey. Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin spoke about chasing Wayne Gretzky’s record for most NHL regular season goals scored.
“My approach to Gretzky’s record this season? Right now, I just want to play. I just want to make the playoffs with Washington and then we’ll see what happens.
Records are records. They talk about it constantly, there are a lot of questions from the media and fans, but we hockey players just go out on the ice and do what we can,” Ovechkin was quoted as saying by the press service of the NHL.
Ovechkin’s teammate admitted that the Russian’s performance will decline in the new NHL season
Last season in the NHL, Ovechkin participated in 73 regular season games and scored 75 points for his performance – 42 goals and 33 assists. In total, he has 822 accurate shots in the NHL, making him the second sniper in league history.
The Russian was chosen by the Capitals with the first number in the 2004 NHL draft. He spent his entire career overseas with Washington. In 2018, the Russian helped the Capitals win the first-ever Stanley Cup.
