Vyacheslav Bykov called Datsyuk a great master whose career is admired

Former head coach of the Russian national team Vyacheslav Bykov appointed Pavel Datsyuk a grandmaster who greatly contributed to the popularization of Russian hockey in the world.

World champion and two-time Stanley Cup winner in Detroit (2002, 2008) Datsyuk had previously announced his retirement.

— Pavel Datsyuk is a grandmaster who has contributed enormously to the development of hockey and the popularization of Russian hockey in the world. His journey is admirable. He left a big mark in the history of Russian hockey,” Bykov told RBC Sport.

– By his own example, he gave a dynamic and an evolution to hockey. Special respect that the man returned to his homeland and continued to invest his experience in the younger generation, – said Bykov, noting that Datsyuk gave young players the opportunity to see “how to work”.

Datsyuk, in addition to Detroit, played for Ak Bars, Dynamo Moscow and CSKA, SKA, Avtomobilist, for which he had been playing since 2019 and left the team after the end of the 2020/21 season. As part of the Russian national team, the 43-year-old striker became world champion in 2012, Olympic champion in 2018 and bronze medalist at the 2002 Games. Datsyuk is the winner of the 2017 Gagarin Cup with SKA.
