Guberniev fears the situation with Fedotov could lead to the flight of young talent from Russia

“” commentator Dmitry Guberniev believes that the situation with the goalkeeper CSKA Ivan Fedotov could set a dangerous precedent and lead to an exodus of young athletes from the country. The journalist declared it on the air of the program “Tous pour le match!”.

On July 1, it became known that the St. Petersburg police had arrested Fedotov. The 2021/22 season Gagarin Cup winner and 2022 Games silver medalist is suspected of evading military service. In May, the 25-year-old hockey player signed a contract with Philadelphia.

– We understand how athletes serve, far from the same as, say, ordinary conscripts. This has been proven for decades. Therefore, of course, what Fedotov and his team did is unclear. But a question arises. Why do we treat famous athletes like this? He is the best goalkeeper in the country, Olympic vice-champion, winner of the Gagarin Cup, some people arrived without an identifying mark. They took him and took him somewhere. Did he get summons all the time? I think it looks like some kind of revenge! I don’t know by whom. Maybe from those who don’t want the guy to go to Philadelphia. But this sets a very dangerous precedent! If we continue to treat our great athletes like this, then hockey players or representatives of other sports who are now 16-17 years old will simply leave. Hockey players – in America, other wonderful athletes aged 16-17 – in the West. So that this situation does not happen again. I hope the competent authorities will solve the problem. Sport needs people like Fedotov. But, of course, the laws of the Russian Federation cannot be violated,” Guberniev said.
