Athletistic / Hockey. Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews said he has no current plans to continue the accomplishments of Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin.

“I don’t think about it at all. What Ovechkin has accomplished deserves recognition. He’s been consistent over the years and has gotten closer to the league record. I can’t say enough good things about her.

Ovechkin is incredible and has been one of my favorite players since entering the NHL. But now I don’t think about it anymore. His stability and health are very impressive to say the least,” Matthews said according to the NHL press service.

Auston Matthews reached the 300 NHL regular season goal mark in 482 games. Among active hockey players, Ovechkin managed to do this faster than him (473). The 38-year-old Russian has scored 822 goals during his career in North America and now ranks second in the sniper race in NHL history. Ovechkin is second behind Wayne Gretzky (894).
