Double winner of the Gagarin Cup with Dynamo Moscow Denis Tolpéko believes that the limit on foreign players in the KHL should not be abolished, noting that restrictions can be eased.
In December 2022, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation approved strengthening the limits on foreign players in the KHL. From the 2023/24 season, clubs will not be able to include more than three foreigners in their application.
— Does Russian hockey need a limit? For me, it is necessary. Abolish the limit now, and everyone will bring 10 foreigners – and where will the youth develop then? In the same Torpedo, the young players do not leave the ice, they mostly play. This is the future of our hockey. And if you bring in foreign players tomorrow, they will earn money and then go back to the national teams. And many of them also express unflattering criticism of Russia. And why is it necessary? Five people is the optimal limit,” Tolpeko told Championship.
